A Special Ogoni Congress called by the Movement for the Survival of the Ogoni People (MOSOP) was held today, Sunday, July 9th, 2017 at the Peace and Freedom Centre, Bori-Ogoni. It was attended by women groups, youth groups, traditional rulers, professionals, and politicians.
The Congress deliberated on key issues and urgent matters affecting Ogoniland and resolved as follows:
Congress expresses its appreciation to the Governor of Rivers State, His Excellency, Chief Barr. Nyesom Wike for extending the Amnesty Programme to repentant cultists in the Ogoni area.
Congress also appreciates the roles played by different individuals, organizations, the Church and the immediate past chairmen of Ogoni LGAsin restoring peace in the troubled land
Congress stressed that to consolidate and stabilize the peace in the area, the Rivers State Government is called upon to initiateas soon as possible, a process for the rehabilitation and reintegration of repentant cults.
Congress also calls on the Federal and State Governments to increase security facilities in the area including personnel and equipment forintelligence gathering and immediate response to crime.
Congress charged all sons and daughters of Ogoni particularly traditional rulers, politicians andthe youths to work assiduouslyand collaboratively with security agencies to stamp out criminal gangs from our communities  
Congress urges HYPREP to make public its work programme to enable the community and other stake holders to follow-up on the implementation of the UNEP report
Congress calls on HYPREP to immediately embark on the implementation of emergency measures particularly as it relates to provision of water, health evaluation of the people and the training of the youth and women.


Congress reiterates that Ogoni people will not allow resumption of oil production in the area without broad-based discussion with the masses of Ogoni people and called on the Nigeria Petroleum Development Company (NPDC) or any other company to stop forthwith the clandestine attempt to re-enter the area through the back door.
Congress stressed that Ogoni was one of the first groups to raise concerns about the governance structure of the Nigeria federation. 
Congress called on the Nigeria government toembark on a major restructuring of Nigerian federalism underlined by local autonomy for sub-national entities to develop at their own space.
Congress charged the leadership of MOSOP to convene a meeting of critical stakeholders including appointed and elected representatives from the area to further deliberate son key outcomes of the congress
